Stroop Effect Test

Challenge your selective attention and cognitive flexibility with the classic Stroop Test. How fast can you identify the color, not the word?

Master Your Attention

What is the Stroop Test?

The Stroop Effect is one of the most famous phenomena in experimental psychology. It demonstrates that it takes longer to name the ink color of a word when the word itself spells a different color (e.g., the word "RED" printed in blue ink).

Why does this happen?

This interference occurs because your brain reads words automatically and faster than it can identify colors. When you try to name the color, the meaning of the word conflicts with your goal, causing a delay known as "Stroop Interference."

What does this measure?

  • Selective Attention: Your ability to filter out irrelevant information (the word) and focus on the relevant data (the color).
  • Cognitive Flexibility: How quickly your brain can inhibit the dominant response (reading) to perform the less common task (naming color).
  • Processing Speed: How fast your brain resolves cognitive conflicts.

Scoring

  • < 250ms (Average): Exceptional focus and processing speed.
  • 250ms - 350ms: Above average.
  • 350ms - 450ms: Average.
  • > 450ms: Below average or distracted.

Tips to Improve

  • Blur your vision: Try to look at the word as a blur of color rather than reading the letters.
  • Mental cue: Keep reminding yourself "Color, Color" to inhibit the reading reflex.
